Household Products

Household Products
Tell us what products you looked up, what you found about the health risks, and how you responded to this new knowledge. If they don't have your first product choose another and keep choosing until you find one for which they have information.
In reviewing your household items:
  • Were you surprised to find out the toxicity rating of your household products?
  • Did you decide to change any of your consumer behaviors based on your findings?
  • Should everyone know about this risks and why don’t they?

For my first cleaning product I chose: Airwick Crystal Air-Air Freshener
This is a cleaning product I keep going all day just for a fresh smell. To me it seemed very harmless to the family since it is such a small product usually tucked away behind the couch. After researching more about it, I found it to be moderately harmful. I learned that inhaling too much of aresole products can cause harm internally even if it is only at a slow rate. I have no unplugged all air fresheners around the house and others should be aware of it, too.

My second product was: Lysol Brand II Disinfecting Wipes
I use these in our house for a quick wipe down for the kitchen counters. This is very helpful to me when I am in a hurry and need to clean in a short amount of time. Thankfully these only had a rating of 1 on the harmful scale. I am very happy to know this because this is a great product I will still continue to use!

  1. Hi. I was in the same boat as you. I would use spray air fresheners once in a while but now I know I really shouldn't because like you said even if you inhale it at a slow rate there are harmful effects. I also looked up my disinfecting wipes which are Clorox but they got a moderate harmful rating so maybe ill switch to the one you use!
