Processes for Drinking Water & Sewage

  • What is the source of your drinking water?   Where does your water ORIGINATE?  (It is treated at a water treatment plant, but what watershed or aquifer is the sources of the water?)
The pumping station! It is gone through a cleaning process to take out the chemicals first. The next step is filteration making sure it is safe to drink.
  • What chemicals were found in your water that were higher than expected?
Sediments. The Ozone level is also very high, while helps in the killing of bacterias.
  • What chemicals did you NOT expect to find in your water?
I did not expect such a high Ozone level. I also did not expect Coagulations thats causes particles to stick to them, making the water unsafe.
  • Are there associated health risks with the chemicals found in your water?  (sources for this last question include the EPA, CDC, ATSDR and the National Library of Medicine's ToxNet program
Coagulations in water can cause hemophilia, liver diseases, and vitamin k deficiencies.

BLOG about your water quality
  • Where does your water come from? The source! Track it from the source to your tap
Our water comes from the Alameda County Water Supply.
  • What did you discover about your water quality?
I learned that the water is in-fact very clean and uses no additional flavor enhancements. The water taste of Fremont is a little bitter due to this reason,
  • Do you use a filter for your water?
No-Our water is straight from the tap.
  • What are you trying to filter out?
We do not own a special filter.
  • Do you drink bottled water?   How does this square with what you learned when you watched the Story of Bottled Water (see next exercise)?
My family is very big into not drinking any bottle waters due to the reason of bottles being a waste of plastic for the environment. We also save a lot of money by drinking tap water.

  1. Thats good that your water is actually really clean and there aren't any additional enhancements. It is interesting that you think it is a little bitter because this would be a sign to me that the water is bad, but this may be a sign that it is clean and without other enhancements.
