M3.5 Transportation
I am
someone who takes public transportion every single day. I take the BART from
Fremont to San Fransisco with an average commute time of 4 hours a day. I have
found BART to be very helpful because I can save money on gas, avoid traffic,
and lowering my carbon footprints daily. Although it is convenient for my
course, it isn’t the cleanest, fastest, or most enjoyable way to commute. “Improving public transportation not only
links people to these goods and services, but also helps communities achieve
public health benefits. These include increased physical activity, reduced
pollution, reduced fatalities and injuries on our transportation networks and greater
community cohesion.” This statement is very important because by taking action
on the public transportation can have many benefits. It will also encourage
others to ride more frequently if they feel like they are in a safe place. It
was really nice to know that public transportation produces 95% less carbon
monoxide, 92% fewer volatile organic compounds and 45% less carbon dioxide
compares to an individuals automobile. I am happy to know that my commute has a
direct impact to the air quality.
