M7.7 Blog about the agency's role
For my blog, I chose the Unites States Department of Agriculture. This is also known as the Animal and Planet Health Inspection Services. I personally travel a lot outside of the country, so coming back into the States always requires some time spent with the USDA. The USDA is here to help make sure no foreign bugs, animals, or plants enter America from abroad. This is very important because this is a way to help control diseases and breakouts entering our country. A fresh flower from Hawaii that you think is beautiful, can be carrying a dangerous pest in it that you would never even know about. Feral swine has also been something popular for sneaking into the US. This is very dangerous to the livestock and farms causing many plants to die, and animals to get very sick if they come in contact with the disease.

Hi,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. I travel outside of the country a lot as well and although I pass through and encounter the USDA often, I never really take the time to think more into how important it is. Like you said, bring over things that we think are harmless could actually have a lot of big negative impacts.
