• Your thoughts about the vanishing of bees (what else have you heard/seen about this issue?) I often used to think Bees are a very gross, annoying bug that does not help the Earth in anyway! I was a firm believer that we should help terminate them since all they do is cause pain to others. Until, I found out that they are responsible for about 35% of global food production and are inching of unto 40% of the entire world’s supply of micronutrients. I have learned that without bees, our planet would not be able to provide humans the nutrients needed for everyday life.
• Dirt!: The Movie: It was so crazy to me to find out how valuable the soil really is to us! The fate of humans and dirt and closely tied together. Dirt is described to be the skin of Earth. It is the first 5 centimeters layer on Earth that needs to be taken care of, or the Earth will be left to suffer. If there is no dirt-there is just rocks under us. And we can not do much with just rocks. Dirt has more than 10’s of billions microorganisms living together. This is more than any other life found on the remaining planets.
• Were you able to discover if there is a factory farm near you? Were you already aware of farms near you? What do you think about this? After doing my research, I have discovered that there are none near my house in Alameda County!
• Composting: Do you currently compost? Have you composted in the past? Do you know anyone who composts? Would you consider composting, after learning about its benefits from the movie? I currently do not compost. My mother and father do, I however do not think much about it. After learning about it, I will definitely start putting more time towards this and doing it to help our planet!
Hi,
ReplyDeleteYeah I actually never really considered the value of both bees and dirt. I think a lot of us probably wont really value it until we don't have it. I think if we saw global food production decrease because bees are vanishing then we would really see their positive impact.
